RE: Correct Me If I'm Wrong

Thanks USAFBILL, that's what I thought.

Correct Me If I'm Wrong

As soon as I tried to operate the slide out I knew the batteries were low. I just charged them 5 days ago. Plugged the camper to an AC outlet and opened up the battery box and was stunned to find on one battery, 5 dry cells and one filled. Unplugged the camper and used 80oz of water to fill the battery Replugged the camper and the dry cells started bubbling immediately but the cell with water showed no activity. To me that says dead cell. Am I wrong?

RE: Stop Light Strip

It sounds like it might be like one of these: 500 series. If so, then these instructions should help: Changing Bulbs. If that isn't what you need, look at some of the other lights in the online catalog (link on left of the page), or give them a call. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! By the dimensions given, it appears to be a #503 and now I think I can get it opened. I'll check my local stores to see it I can find a #562 bulb.

Stop Light Strip

My wife told me that one of the three lights in the stop light strip located under the rear window in our class C was burned out. I pulled out the unit and found that it appears to be sealed. I can see no way to open the case to replace a bulb. The unit is called a "Rear Ender" and is Manufactured by Sierra Design Manufacturing Inc. out of California. I called but they are closed on Saturday. Does anyone know if and how these can be opened? It is installed on a 2006 Bigfoot 24SL. Important Side Note the caulking around the parameter of the unit was so bad the cutout area in the body is wet and full of dirt. I should have checked it earlier.

RE: Wild Ride

You made it their safe and sound, did not cause an accident....it's all good ! Now...enjoy the C by getting back out there !!:W:W Our former '97 Taurus had the same problem back in 2000. Little tiny part that caused many a worry ! You don't know how much I wish I could take your advice. After three months at a dealership for my brand motor-home, I was called by the motor-home manufacture home office and told to pull it out and take it to any other RV repair facility that was willing to work on it and get it fixed at their expense. I have an appointment at another dealership for Tuesday.

RE: Wild Ride

A TPS failure sounds about right. An easy & cheap repair for anyone. Free in your case. To All When a trouble light on the dash lights up and the RV isn't running right, go to the closest auto repair shop. Any dealer (Ford or otherwise) or private mechanic shop would fix that for you. They would quickly plug in a universal diagnostic computer to find the problem component, then swap it out quickly. Had you went to the closest mechanic and paid for the repair, you would have saved more money and time compared to getting it replaced for free from 36 miles away and the next day. Just because it's a motorhome, don't think mechanics won't touch it, or fix it right. Maybe if they had to pull the engine or transmission, or put the vehicle on a lift. But simple drivability issues......start with the closest auto shop. This occured at about 7pm and I was driving through the Prince Georges portion of the Washington Beltway. If you know the area you'd understand my concern. Most auto shops are closed at that hour. I had to go through Ford Motor Co to find that Bill Britts of Fairfax was the one dealership that would do the warranty work on the chassis and had that info locked in my brain. That's where I headed with the problem.

Wild Ride

Returning from the Eastern Shore after our class C has sat at a dealership for three months to get warranty repairs done (another story told another time), I get halfway home and a little wrench symbol appears on the display. Shortly thereafter I realize I'm having a h'll of a time maintaining highway speed. It's requiring large amounts of throttle and engine surges to approximate the speed limit. My wife is following me in the car so I call her and tell her the problems I'm having and that we're rerouting to the only Ford Dealership in our area that will work on E-450's converted to motorhomes. That was about an additional 36 mile trip. Finally found that running at a steady 60 works. Then we encounter a major truck accident. Truck load of beer flipped on the exit ramp we need to use and we get to creep past that. All that beer wasted, darn. At that point I could have used one or more. After getting off the interstates, I had real problems with no power pulling off at stop lights. Was a nervous wreck when I arrived at the dealership. It was after hours when we dropped it off. Called at one o'clock this afternoon and was surprised to learn that they had fixed it already. The throttle position sensor had failed. This is a part I'm not familiar with. That it was covered under warranty and I could pick it up. What a pleasant surprise. I thought I might have lost a transmission. As much trouble as I had driving it, I probably should have pulled over and had it towed but I didn't relish the thought of sitting on the side of the Washington Beltway waiting for a tow truck in the late evening.

RE: Poor Refrigerator Performance In Hot Weather

Check out this link for fan installation. Refrigerator Fan for RV Thanks for the link. I emailed it to my account since I'm visiting my son and using his computer.

Poor Refrigerator Performance In Hot Weather

Noted that the refrigerator wasn't doing well during the daytime on two secessive 95 degree days. The RV was sitting out in direct sun both days. Went up on the roof and pulled off the ventalation cover to see if it was blocked. There was some debries in there but not enough to really cause a blockage. Noticed that the cover has 8 narrow slots versus the wide open grate under it. I'm wondering that in very hot weather if 12v fan would assist in the cooling of the fins. Anyone tried this? Mount a small fan under the cover to get more air flow.

RE: No juice from batteries

By your description of Marine Batteries with cold cranking amps I believe you have 12v batteries. If so, by your description of how you hooked them up, you have created a 24v system. That wouldn't bode well for your control boards. Good Luck.

Mistake Made - Lesson Learned

Been taking several short trips with the TC and was being lazy about dumping the tanks. Two trips were canceled by bad weather so the camper sat for three weeks. We then went out for four days over the fourth. Came home with full tanks a went to dump them. Nothing came out. The heavy stuff had settled and blocked the outlet. Thank heavens I had one of those flexible flush tubes that squirt water out the end to clean out the tank. Broke loose the blockage and drained the tank. Would have been a real nasty job to fix any other way. I've promised myself that I'll be more diligent about dumping the tanks.

RE: Coach battery

Bought two Wally World group 27's for my truck camper two years ago to replace the OE batteries. They're doing fine. I've had no problems with them. In my Class C though, I replaced my two deep cycle 12v batteries with 4 golf cart 6v's. The battery tray is huge so room wasn't the problem. The two twelves wouldn't hold enough of a charge to run that heater all night long in the winter.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Missed it! Haven't seen it since May 1st. Took it in for warranty service and they still haven't got the slide working right. Now waiting for a new module control from the manufacturer.

RE: Gas Mileage

I have a 2003 GMC Duramax diesel crew truck. It gives me 18 mpg on the road. With the 03 Arctic Fox 1140 it gives me 13 mpg at 60 mph.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Called Dealership to inquire if warranty repairs have been completed. Was told our unit went into the shop today. Should be ready early next week. Getting real close to 7 weeks waiting now. Two of those weeks were lost while waiting for approval of the repairs and another week and half were lost waiting for parts to be shipped in.

RE: Norcold "NO FL"

I recently had a piece of rust scale fall out of the chimney and block the flame sensor. Loosening one screw releases the fire box guard and you can inspect to see if something is blocking yours.

RE: Norcold fridge giving me a "NO FL" message

Had this happen to me this weekend. Opened up the refrigerator outside cover and could see that there was a flame and could also hear the buzzing of the igniter. After thirty seconds I got the No Fl display and a soft beeping. Opened up the burner box and there was a piece of rust scale that had fallen down the chimney and was blocking the flame from hitting the heat sensor. Removed the scale and the refrigerator worked fine. When I get home I'll need to clean out the burner box.

Hat's Off To Artic Fox

Our 2003 Artic Fox TC had the front fiberglass panel delaminate under the entire bed area and had developed a 3" crack on the nose. I contacted Artic Fox and was told it had to be a water problem. They told me to take it to their factory that was closest to us. I asked them to fix it whether it was their problem or mine. They replaced the entire front panel at their expense. They felt the front window was improperly installed and had been leaking from day one. They also replaced some of the interior fabric closet liners that were wet. They pulled all the other windows to inspect with no other leaks found. When we researched TC's before we bought we were told that Artic Fox was a quality product with a good service reputation. That has once again been proven to us Thank You Artic Fox

RE: Dangerous Thinking

Standard inverter change over.. One Xantrex Prosine 2.0 or 3KW unit (Your pick) One sub panel one 30 amp breaker Some 10ga romex Some very heavy 12 volt cables One honking big fuse Screws That's about it Remove breakers for all circuits you want to be "E-powered" (Emergency powered) from the box, label and remove the wires, Put in one 30amp breaker NOTE: I would also exclude the water heater, and perhaps the fridge (More on the fridge later) Install sub panel Re-install all removed breakers, label them and connect the wires to them as they were before Run 10ga wire from a NEW 30 amp breaker in the master panel to the inverter's AC-IN connections Run 10ga from the inverter's AC-OUT to the sub panel On the 12 volt side of life keep 'em short and tight together Disconnect or disable the existing converter And that's about all there is to it Let's see if I'm understanding what you've said. The Xantrex Prosine now functions as both your inverter and converter. That you're routing the 110 shore power through it to serve the RV. That when the 110 drops off the inverter kicks in.

RE: Dangerous Thinking

My 1500 watt runs the micro just fine for warmups and TV dinners etc. And I do it off 2 batts @ 220 AHs. I added a seperate 30 amp ATS, and the converter automatically drops off line when the ATS switches to Inverter. What is an ATS, automatic transfer switch?
